World premiere of Maria Vitória in the Official Competition of the Tokyo International Film Festival
Maria Vitória, the first fiction feature film by Portuguese director Mário Patrocínio, will have its world premiere in the Official Competition of the Tokyo International Film Festival, which runs from October 27 to November 5.
TIFF is Japan’s largest and most prestigious film festival, accredited by FIAPF since its creation in 1985. Held annually in the heart of Tokyo, it is a central platform for encounters between world cinema and the Asian industry.
The Official Competition brings together international premieres from established and emerging filmmakers, alongside sections dedicated to contemporary Japanese cinema, Asian cinema, animation, and retrospectives.
The film, starring Mariana Cardoso, Miguel Borges, and Miguel Nunes, was shot in December 2024 in the Serra da Estrela region and will be presented at the festival with the presence of the director and cast.
Mário Patrocínio, author of internationally awarded documentaries such as Complexo – Parallel Universe (number 1 at the Portuguese box office, winner of Best International Feature at the Artivist Film Festival) and I Love Kuduro, now makes his fiction debut with Maria Vitória.
