Portugal, 1940. Carolina Loff da Fonseca, one of the most enigmatic figures of the communist resistance to the Estado Novo dictatorship, is arrested and interrogated by Júlio de Almeida, an agent of the political police. Between them, an ambiguous and enduring relationship takes shape, suspended between desire, calculation and complicity. Drawing on rigorous historical research and the gaps of the archive, the film constructs a fiction in which what is known coexists with what remains indecipherable.
